A member of the Community of Sant'Egidio since 1975, as the responsible for international relations he took part in numerous peace initiatives of the Community of Sant'Egidio in various countries in the world: Algeria, Kosovo, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Darfur, Guinee and the Central African Republic.
In 2012 and 2013 he was an advisor to the Minister of International Cooperation and Integration. He then served as the Italian Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and then Vice-Minister until 2018.
