Professor of Contemporary History at Roma 3 University. He has been studying 19th century Russian history.
He was appointed an expert historian in the Vatican Commission for New Martyrs, founded by Pope John Paul II within the Committee for the Great Jubilee in 2000 to collect the necessary basic historical documentation concerning the many witnesses to the faith in the 20th century.
He is secretary-general of the Community of Sant’Egidio.
