A graduate from La Sapienza University in Rome, he has been involved with the Community of Sant'Egidio since 1994 in various social initiatives, most recently in favour of prisoners and for the humanisation of prisons.

He has also collaborated in the Sant'Egidio commitment for peace for more than 20 years. Between 2002 and 2005, he was involved in the reconciliation process in Liberia. He was part of the team that dealt with the conflict in Darfur and as such participated in several sessions of the Abuja peace talks. Since 2013, he has been in charge of institutional relations with states, relations with civil society bodies in several African countries and is in charge of the Emergency Humanitarian Aid section. Since 2017, he has also been in charge of the Horn of Africa department with a focus on Sudan and South Sudan.
Since 2019 he has been Secretary General of the Community of Sant'Egidio.
