A Tunisian theologian, he conducted studies at the University of Tunis Zaytuna and the Sorbonne in Paris.

He is a member of the Islamic-Christian Research Group (GRIC) of Tunisia.

He has been following Sant'Egidio's commitment to peace since 1995 when he attentively accompanied the talks that then began in Rome for peace in Algeria.
