He is Rector of the Basilica of St. Bartholomew on Tiber Island, since 2000 a memorial site for the new martyrs of the 20th and 21st centuries.

He teaches Church history at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Urbanian University. He has researched Church history in contemporary Italy.

He collaborates in some of the most important peace mediation initiatives of the Community of Sant'Egidio in Africa. He is part of the working group currently working for reconciliation in Casamance (Senegal).
