[Caracas, VENEZUELA - 1950]

A French historian, he is a specialist in religious history and contemporary Christianity. He taught contemporary history at the University Jean Moulin-Lyon III, where he was director of the Institute for the History of Christianity from 1989 to 1999. He is the author of historical research on interreligious dialogue and the search for peace in the aftermath of the Second Vatican Council. He was among the organisers of the 2005 edition of the International Meetings of Peoples and Religions held in Lyon.
Since 2020, he has chaired the Amitié Judéo-Chrétienne de France, which works to ensure that 'knowledge, understanding, respect and friendship replace age-old misunderstandings and traditions of hostility'.
